Dr Anchal Roy, an officer of the 42nd BCS health cadre and assistant registrar in neurology at Mugda Medical College Hospital, has died after contracting dengue. She was 30 at the time of her death. Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul expressed deep sorrow over the doctor’s untimely death.
She died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital. Expressing deep grief and sorrow over Dr Anchal Roy’s untimely death, the health minister said, “I am deeply saddened by her death. The health family has lost a dedicated doctor.” The minister prayed for peace for the departed soul and conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and colleagues.
It is learned that Dr Anchal Roy worked in the neurology department of Mugda Medical College Hospital. Recently, she had been attached to the respiratory medicine department. While performing her duties as a doctor, she sometimes treated dengue patients as well. Dr Anchal studied at the then Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College, now Noakhali Medical College. She recently passed the mid-term FCPS examination in internal medicine. Earlier, she also passed part one of the United Kingdom’s MRCP examination.
Anchal’s husband Biplab Chandra Das said her physical condition deteriorated after four days of treatment at home. On the fifth day, when her blood platelet count fell rapidly, she was taken to Square Hospital. At first, she was admitted to the hospital’s high dependency unit. Later, when her condition worsened, she was transferred to the intensive care unit, and she died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.
