Iran’s embassy in South Africa has claimed White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt resigned following a dispute with US President Donald Trump. The White House has rejected the claim as “false and baseless.”
According to a report by Pakistani outlet Samaa TV, Iran’s embassy made the claim on social media while commenting on various reports about Leavitt’s resignation. The same post included a photo of Leavitt.
The Iranian embassy claimed that while Trump ensured his own security amid a security threat, he left other officials exposed to risk — suggesting this was why Leavitt had reportedly lost confidence in Trump.
It is believed the Iranian embassy’s post was referring to reports that Trump was secretly moved to a small military aircraft while returning from Turkey.
However, the White House rejected the Iranian embassy’s allegation as “outright false.”
US officials said Leavitt was not with Trump during the Turkey visit, and also denied reports suggesting she was involved in the secret transfer of Trump to another aircraft.
Trump has confirmed Leavitt’s resignation. However, no independent evidence has been found to support the Iranian embassy’s claim that a personal or political dispute with Trump lay behind her departure.
