Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said the July Uprising Memorial Museum will not be a place to establish the political narrative of any one person, party or group.
Opening the museum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Wednesday, he said people who support democracy were the true heroes of the 2024 mass uprising.
Rahman said the 1971 Liberation War won independence, while the 2024 uprising protected the freedom of the country and its people. He said the nation would not forget those killed in the movement.
The museum will present the sacrifices, struggle and history of the democratic movement to future generations, he said, adding that historical accuracy must be protected.
Rahman said injured participants in the uprising were receiving free treatment in government hospitals, seriously injured people had been offered treatment abroad, and more than 13,000 gazetted July uprising participants were receiving monthly honoraria.
He said every case involving people killed or injured in the anti-fascist movement would be handled transparently and impartially through legal processes. He also urged people to remain alert to attempts to create instability through unnecessary issues.
Rahman formally declared the museum open and thanked those involved in establishing it.
