Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman accused the government of deceiving the public and the July uprising over implementation of the July Charter.

Speaking at an 11-party rally on Wednesday, he also accused the government of behaving in a fascist manner over the referendum and said it should abandon authoritarian conduct.

Rahman said July uprising participants were national assets and should not be used for political purposes. He said many were still receiving treatment in hospitals in Bangkok or suffering at home, while alleging that the government had not given them sufficient attention.

He said the uprising did not have a single mastermind and that everyone from day laborers to people across the country had been part of the movement.

Rahman called for rehabilitation of bereaved families, medical care for injured people and trials over killings during the uprising. He said the prime minister should explain why promises made before taking office had not been fulfilled.

He said the government should accept the public’s verdict and warned that people would not accept fascism in Bangladesh. These were political statements and allegations by the opposition leader.
