Those in power created a division in the unity of July by not taking an oath of constitutional reform at the very start of running the state, said Mohammad Selim Uddin, a member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive council, Amir of Dhaka City North and the party’s candidate for DNCC mayor. He said the true face of those who do not want to implement the July Charter had become clear to the people.
He made the remarks as chief guest at a unit presidents’ conference organised by Cumilla city Jamaat on Friday.
The conference, presided over by Cumilla city Amir Kazi Deen Mohammad and conducted by city secretary Mahbubur Rahman, had as special guests central Majlis-e-Shura member and Dhaka City South assistant secretary Dr A Mannan and Dr Abul Kalam Azad Bashar. City Naib-e-Amir Master Mosleh Uddin and Professor A K M Emdadul Haque Mamun, among others, also spoke.
Selim Uddin said Jamaat wanted to build a humane city in which no one would be unemployed for lack of jobs and no one would go hungry. His party was working to turn every city into a humane, safe and livable one, he said.
He said free medical care was being provided to thousands of people as part of various programmes aimed at building a humane society, adding that the party’s activities were centred on public welfare and service.
At a gathering of children and adolescents held in the capital’s Uttara at 7 am, Selim Uddin said that if the people gave Jamaat responsibility in the DNCC election, top priority would be given to building a safe city, and that Dhaka could be rebuilt in a new form within five years. He also called for setting up a modern CCTV-camera network to ensure corruption-free city management.
He said sports played an important role in the physical and mental development of young people, so regular exercise and sports were needed to develop talent and build a healthy society. He urged young people to stay away from drugs, crime and negative activities and to play a part in building the country and society.
