Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Uttara West thana unit has formally launched an unusual charity drive called the “humanity box” to support disadvantaged and vulnerable people. The initiative was inaugurated on Thursday at the kitchen market in Uttara’s Sector 11 by Mohammad Selim Uddin, Jamaat’s Dhaka metropolitan north amir and the party’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation. After the launch, Selim Uddin walked through the market himself, approaching shopkeepers and shoppers. He urged people to stand beside the disadvantaged and encouraged everyone to place essential goods, clothing or financial help in the “humanity box” according to their means. His spontaneous appeal drew a strong response from people at the market, the party said.
Also present were Uttara West thana Jamaat naib-e-amir Maqbul Ahmed; Turag Central thana naib-e-amir Kamrul Hasan; Sector 11 Welfare Society acting secretary and Ward 11 council candidate Salahuddin Bhuiyan; Ward 1 council candidate Mahfuzur Rahman; Uttara West thana secretary Firoz Alam; youth leaders Tariq Hasan and Motaleb Hossain; and other local leaders.
