Professor Md Zakir Hossain of the philosophy department has been given charge as the new proctor of Jahangirnagar University (JU). The university administration gave him the responsibility after accepting the resignation of the current proctor.
The information was given in an office order signed by the university’s acting registrar, Dr ABM Azizur Rahman, on Wednesday (29 July).
According to university sources, Professor Dr AKM Rashidul Alam of the environmental science department applied to step down from the post of proctor, citing personal reasons. The university authorities approved his application and released him from the responsibility.
In line with the administration’s decision, Professor Md Zakir Hossain has been asked to serve temporarily as proctor from Wednesday (29 July) afternoon until further notice.
The office order stated that he would carry out the duties of proctor in accordance with the university’s existing rules and regulations and would enjoy all the facilities associated with the post. The outgoing and newly appointed proctors were also directed to complete the formal process of handing over and taking charge quickly. The office order also said the relevant certificate should be submitted to the registrar’s office after the handover is completed.
