A police sub-inspector (SI), Md Asaduzzaman, has died of an electric shock after coming home on leave in Gaibandha. The incident took place on Saturday evening in Haripur village of Gobindaganj upazila.
Asaduzzaman served as a sub-inspector at police headquarters in Dhaka.
Family members and police said Asaduzzaman took leave and came to his village home on Saturday morning. When the power went off in the evening, he was repairing the IPS, the instant power supply unit, at the house. At one point during the work he received an electric shock and fell to the ground. Family members took him to the Gobindaganj upazila health complex, where a doctor declared him dead.
Confirming the death, Gobindaganj police officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque said police were sent to the scene on receiving the information. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue at Gaibandha general hospital for a post-mortem examination. The body will be handed to the family once the legal process is complete.
