Ten people, including schoolchildren, were injured when a motorcycle hit them in Chougacha, Jashore. The accident happened at midday on Wednesday, July 22, in front of Singhajhuli Shaheed Mashiur Rahman Secondary School on the Chougacha-Jashore road.
The injured were admitted to Chougacha Government Model Hospital for treatment, and several were referred to Jashore.
Among the injured were five pupils of Singhajhuli Shaheed Mashiur Rahman Secondary School, aged between 12 and 15. Also injured were the motorcycle rider, a 32-year-old man from Boro Niamatpur village in Patibila union of the upazila, along with his 20-year-old wife and their three-year-old daughter.
Pupils were crossing the road after school let out at midday when a Chougacha-bound motorcycle from Jashore lost control and hit them, according to accounts of the incident. The motorcycle skidded onto the road, injuring the rider and his passengers as well.
Locals quickly took the injured to Chougacha Upazila Government Model Hospital. After first aid there, four of the seriously injured pupils and the motorcycle rider were referred to Jashore General Hospital for better treatment. One source said one of the pupils had been referred to Dhaka.
Chougacha police station officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid confirmed the accident and said the motorcycle involved had been seized.
