CHOUGACHA — A young man identified as Hasan Ali, 25, was killed when a pickup truck rear-ended a hay-laden trolley in Chougacha upazila of Jashore. Hasan was the son of Shanti Mia of Dattanagar village in Mahespur upazila of Jhenaidah district. The accident took place around 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at the Tengurpur intersection on the Chougacha-Mahespur road.
Hasan’s cousin Ashraful Islam said Hasan was sitting next to the driver of a hay-laden trolley heading toward Mahespur when, on reaching the Tengurpur intersection, a pickup truck (registration Kushtia Da-11-0288) rammed the trolley from behind. Hasan fell from the driver’s seat and was seriously injured. Locals rushed him to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.
Dr. Rakibul Islam, the on-duty physician in the emergency department of Chougacha Upazila Health Complex, said Hasan was dead before he arrived at the hospital.
Anwar Hossain, officer in charge of Chougacha police station, said the pickup truck had been seized and the driver, Riad Hossain, 26, son of Rabiul Islam of Nawapara Prembagh, had been taken into police custody. Legal action would be taken if a complaint was filed by the victim’s family, he said.
