CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — The Department of Environment conducted an anti-pollution drive in Chougachha, with a mobile court collecting 33,000 taka in fines and seizing 300 kg of polythene and five hydraulic horns.
The court was led by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasmin Jahan at Churipatti and Press Club intersection in Chougachha town on Monday, July 21.
During the operation, the owner of Disar Store in the Churipatti area was fined 20,000 taka and the owner of Nayan Store was fined 10,000 taka for selling polythene. About 300 kg of polythene was seized from the two shops and destroyed.
Separately, three passenger buses were charged under Section 18 of the Sound Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006 for fitting harmful hydraulic horns. Each was fined 1,000 taka, for a total of 3,000 taka. Five hydraulic horns were seized from the vehicles and destroyed.
“Wherever there is pollution, there is a mission,” said Tasmin Jahan, executive magistrate of the mobile court, adding that operations against polluters will continue.
Imdadul Haque, deputy director of the Department of Environment in Jashore, and inspector Jihad Hossain were present during the operation, along with members of law enforcement.
