Jamaat names mayoral, chairman candidates in Chougacha

CHOUGACHA — Jamaat-e-Islami’s chairman candidates for Chougacha municipality and 10 union parishads in Chougacha upazila of Jashore have been announced. The names were announced Wednesday by upazila Jamaat chief Maulana Golam Morshed after approval from the central and district organizations.

Master Kamal Ahmed, former panel mayor and assistant secretary of the upazila Jamaat, has been nominated for mayor of Chougacha municipality.

For the unions, the candidates are: Maulana Shariful Islam, president of the union Jamaat, in Fulsara; Maulana Abdul Qader, former chairman, in Pashapole; journalist Rohidul Islam Khan, assistant secretary of the upazila Jamaat, in Singhajhuli; Roknuzzaman, president of the union Jamaat, in Dhulianee; Maulana Abdur Rahman, former chairman, in Jagdishpur; Maulana Nurul Islam, vice president (nayeb-e-ameer) of the upazila Jamaat, in Patibila; Hafez Maulana Amin Uddin Khan, former chairman, in Hakimpur; Maulana Ghias Uddin, assistant secretary of the upazila Jamaat, in Swarupdaha; Tuhinur Rahman, upazila president of the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation, in Narayanpur; and Abdul Alim, president of the union Jamaat, in Sukhpukuria.

No candidate has been announced for Chougacha union.

Asked about the announcements, upazila Jamaat chief Maulana Golam Morshed said the party would contest chairman and member posts in all unions in the upcoming local elections. Candidates had been announced for the municipal mayoral post and 10 of the 11 unions, with member candidates to be announced formally later, along with the Chougacha union slate.

Multiple Jamaat sources said the announcements, which spread quickly on social media, had renewed enthusiasm among party activists.
