CHAUGACHHA, Jashore — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a public rally in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore on Monday to mark the first anniversary of the July revolution. The rally was held Monday afternoon at the Press Club grounds in the town.

Maulana Golam Morshed, ameer of the upazila Jamaat, presided over the rally. Dr. Mosleh Uddin Farid, the Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for the Chaugachha-Jhikargachha constituency, attended as chief guest.

The rally was conducted by Maulana Nuruzzaman, secretary of the upazila Jamaat. Other speakers included Maulana Nurul Islam, naib-e-ameer of the upazila Jamaat; Hafez Amin Uddin, former upazila ameer; Mufti Anisur Rahman, upazila ameer of Islami Andolan; Mufti Shihab Uddin, its secretary; Maulana Abdul Khalek, ameer of the municipal Jamaat; Master Kamal Ahmed and Giyas Uddin, assistant secretaries of the upazila Jamaat; Rohidul Islam Khan; Maulana Abdur Rahman, former chairman of Jagadishpur union; Maulana Shariful Islam, president of Fulsara union; Abdul Alim, president of Sukhpukuria union; Maulana Abdul Kader, former chairman of Pashapole union; Ashraful Islam, president of Hakimpur union; Maulana Abu Bakar Siddique, president of Swarupdah union; and Hafez Abu Said, president of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s upazila unit.

Speaking as chief guest, Dr. Mosleh Uddin Farid said 70 percent of those killed during the uprising were from low-income families. Even so, he said, they did not hesitate to give their lives for the nation. The responsibility for their families now rests with the country, particularly the government, he said. The families of the martyrs do not beg, he added, but want to live with dignity.

As a doctor, Farid said, he had contacted various ministries and the 100-bed program at the Chaugachha Upazila Health Complex would be operational within a month.

Addressing political leaders, he said all sides must work together for the development of Chaugachha and Jhikargachha before and after the vote, instead of attacking one another.

After the rally, a procession set out from the Press Club grounds and circled various streets in the town.
