A court has jailed four men, caught by locals while using drugs in various areas of Darshana police station in Chuadanga, after summary trials. The Chuadanga senior judicial magistrate’s court delivered the verdict on Sunday (19 July) afternoon.
The convicts are Sajjad Hossain, 30, of Akundabaria village in Sadar upazila; Ibrahim Khalid, 27, of Hijolgari village; Aminul Haque, alias Azahar, 24; and Shipon Ali, 23, of Baldia village. The court sentenced Sajjad Hossain to one year’s simple imprisonment and Ibrahim Khalid, Aminul Haque alias Azahar and Shipon Ali to two months’ simple imprisonment each.
Police sources said locals had detained the four while they were using drugs in Akundabaria and Hijolgari villages late on Saturday (18 July) night. On the instructions of Superintendent of Police Ruhul Kabir Khan, two separate police teams led by Darshana police officer-in-charge (OC) Nazrul Islam went to the scene and took them into custody. When the detainees were produced in court on Sunday afternoon, the court passed the sentences after a summary trial under Section 36(1), sub-section 29(a), of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Darshana OC Nazrul Islam confirmed that the convicts had been sent to Chuadanga district jail after the verdict.
