A human chain was held in Chuadanga to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
Prothom Alo Trust, with the support of Bondhushava, organised the human chain in front of the Chuadanga Press Club on Friday afternoon.
Educationists, sportspeople, politicians, representatives of civic organisations, journalists, poets, writers and rhymesters, civil-society representatives, women entrepreneurs and students of various educational institutions took part.
Conducted by Prothom Alo’s Chuadanga correspondent Shah Alam Soni, the human chain heard a welcome address from Chuadanga Bondhushava president Md Delwar Hossain, associate professor of the history department of Chuadanga Government College. Others present included former Chuadanga Government College principal Md Siddiqur Rahman; Mathabhanga River Protection Movement president and former Chuadanga Municipal College principal Professor Hamidul Haque Munshi; Farmers’ Alliance general secretary and former Chuadanga Municipal College principal Shahjahan Ali Biswas; former Chuadanga Press Club general secretary Bipul Ashraf; senior journalist MM Alauddin; Bangladesh Journalists’ Association Chuadanga unit general secretary Hussain Malik; and woman entrepreneur Jahanara Khatun.
Expressing solidarity with the Prothom Alo Trust event, others taking part included Chuadanga Press Club vice-president Rafiq Rahman, noted rhymester Ahad Ali Mollah, sports organiser and journalist Islam Rakib, sportsperson Rokon Uddin, and district Swechchhasebak Dal joint general secretary Hamid Uddin Babu.
