This episode of the magazine programme Ityadi has been recorded in Jamalpur, the border district of the nakshi kantha. The main stage was built in the open grounds of the Lauchapra recreation centre, surrounded by green woodland and a lake at the foot of the Garo hills in Bakshiganj upazila. There was a festive atmosphere across the whole of Jamalpur district around the recording.
This episode features two songs of different kinds. One is sung by the popular singers Pantha Kanai and Tasiba Begum, both of whom first appeared on television through Ityadi. The song is written by Liton Adhikari Rintu, with music and arrangement by Sumon Kalyan.
As always, a song-and-dance piece introducing the district has also been included. It is sung as a duet by Mizan Mahmud Rajib and Sinthi Saha, who also come from Jamalpur. The song is written by Moniruzzaman Palash, with music and arrangement by Ujjal Sinha.
Following the practice of Ityadi’s regular audience round, four members of the audience were chosen through questions and answers about Jamalpur, the place of recording. As in Ityadi’s regular episodes, there are several informative reports. Alongside special reports on the nakshi kantha, a unique symbol of Jamalpur’s economy and culture, and on the traditional dish known as milli or pithali, there is a factual picture of the district’s history, heritage and archaeological assets.
There is an unusual report on Jamalpur’s Tulsipur horse market, one of the oldest and largest in the country. There is also a report on the human cost of river erosion, covering families displaced in Jamalpur and families harmed by child marriage driven by poverty.
The contributions of four notable figures born in Jamalpur are also recalled with deep respect. This episode of Ityadi will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television after the Bengali news at 8pm on Friday, September 25. Ityadi is written, directed and presented by Hanif Sanket.
