US Vice President JD Vance has become a father for the fourth time. His son was born on Sunday local time at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Al Jazeera reported.

In a joint statement, JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, said: “We are delighted to announce that our son, Alec Neil Vance, was born this morning.” The statement said both Usha and the newborn are healthy, and that the family’s other children are thrilled to have a little brother.

Alec Neil Vance is the first child born to a sitting US vice president in more than 150 years. According to the White House Historical Association, the last such birth was in 1870, when Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen Wade, had a child while he was in office.

JD Vance, an Ohio resident and former US Marine, and Usha Vance, the child of Indian immigrants, met while studying at Yale Law School, graduating in 2013. The couple’s first son, Ewan, was born in 2017, their second son, Vivek, in 2020, and their daughter, Mirabel, in 2021.

Vance has long voiced concern about falling birth rates in the United States and has advocated having more children since his 2021 Senate run in Ohio. As vice president, he told the 2025 March for Life rally: “I want more babies born in the United States.”
