Public support in the United States for Israel has been falling since the Gaza war. A new survey shows that far fewer Americans now hold a positive view of the Israeli people than before, while attitudes toward Palestinians have remained largely unchanged.

According to the survey, only 52 percent of Americans now hold a positive view of the Israeli people, down from 67 percent in 2022. The study also found that most people hold negative views of the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, and that negative views of the Israeli government have risen sharply in recent years.

The gap is clearer among younger people. Among Americans under 30, 59 percent hold a positive view of Palestinians, while only 32 percent view Israelis positively.

The gap is widest among young Democrats: 72 percent expressed a positive view of Palestinians, and only 26 percent a positive view of Israelis.

Among young Republicans, meanwhile, support for Palestinians and Israelis is now roughly equal. A few years ago they were far more supportive of Israelis, but that has shifted significantly.
