Science and technology fair in Gangni leaves visitors impressed by students’ inventions

A science and technology fair and exhibition has been held at the upazila level in Gangni, Meherpur, to spread science and technology and to encourage inventive thinking among students.

Tarikul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (general) of Meherpur, attended the fair’s opening ceremony as chief guest on Thursday (June 12, 2026), at the Gangni upazila parishad auditorium. The fair was organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The keynote paper was presented by Suman Chandra Debnath, senior scientific officer of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR).

The ceremony was chaired by Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anwar Hossain. Special guests included Gangni upazila agriculture officer Md. Motiur Rahman; upazila women’s affairs officer Nasima Khatun; district freedom-fighter commander Shamsul Alam Sona; Gangni upazila BNP president Alfaz Uddin Kalu; general secretary Abdul Awal; NCP leader Md. Mujahidul Islam; and teachers and students from various educational institutions, NGO officials, political figures and journalists.

The programme was moderated by upazila academic education officer Abdullah Al Masum.

Students from various educational institutions displayed science-based projects, technology-driven inventions and creative work at the fair. The guests toured the students’ inventive displays and encouraged them.

The organizers said the fair was arranged to build a science-minded generation and to spark students’ interest in new inventions.

The fair was jointly organized by the Gangni upazila administration and the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR).
