The government has launched a nationwide competition to develop the creativity, analytical thinking and latent talent of secondary and higher-secondary students.
The event will be held under the “Performance Based Grants for Secondary Institutions” (PBGSI) scheme of the Secondary Education Development Programme, under the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division. The information was given in a recent notification signed by the ministry’s Senior Assistant Secretary Dipayan Das Shuvo.
The aim is to move students away from rote learning and encourage practical, production-oriented education. Any student from class six to class twelve can take part. Each institution will form a team of five students and two teachers to guide them, though an institution may enter more than one team.
The fair will be held in three main categories: startup, science project and innovation idea.
According to the notification, the fair must be held by June 11 in all upazilas and in the education thanas under the Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna metropolitan areas. Designated upazila- or thana-level committees will select the best project from those displayed as the winner.
The district-level competition will be held on June 24. Based on the district committees’ evaluation, the winning team from each district — five students and two teachers — will be nominated directly for the national final. The list of district winners must be scanned with the District Commissioner’s (DC) signature and sent by June 26 to the designated email address (pbgseaward2026@gmail.com).
Ministry sources said a total of 75 teams from the country’s 64 districts and four metropolitan cities will take part in the national final, with 525 members in all. The national event is planned for the last week of June at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
Awards will be distributed among the winning students and teachers in the presence of the prime minister, and the best 10 teams will be chosen as the final winners to receive their prizes directly from her. Every student taking part at the national level will receive 5,000 taka as an “Innovative Meritorious Student Award,” sent directly to their bank account, along with a certificate. Each participating teacher will receive 25,000 taka as a “Meritorious Teacher Award,” along with a certificate.
