Iran has executed a man accused of working in the interests of the United States and Israel. The country’s Fars news agency said the execution was carried out following a judicial verdict.

The report named the executed man as Mehdi Khanki. He had been charged with being a member of a “counter-revolutionary terrorist organisation” and with carrying out operational activities in the interests of the United States and Israel.

Fars said security forces arrested Mehdi Khanki in a raid in the city of Karaj, recovering a cache of weapons from his home.

These included pistols, ammunition, a remote control for detonating explosives, hand-made grenades, shoulder-launched explosive tubes and high-powered bombs.

Iranian authorities say the court ordered his execution after judicial proceedings based on these charges, and the sentence was later carried out. There was no immediate response from the United States or Israel.
