The government has reversed its decision to end the migration facility for Class XI admissions in the coming academic year. Under the new decision, students will get the same migration option during admission as before.

The education board said online applications for Class XI admission will open September 2 and run through September 10. Admission activities are proposed to conclude with classes starting September 23. In previous years, students who passed the SSC and equivalent exams got three rounds of opportunity to apply online for Class XI admission. This year, however, they will get only one opportunity in the first phase.

Education board sources said admission to Class XI will again be based on SSC and equivalent exam results this year, with no admission test. Applications will be taken centrally online, and students will be given admission placements based on their results, order of preference and, where applicable, quota considerations.

Class XI admissions have been conducted based on SSC and equivalent results for several years now. Students wishing to be admitted must pay the set fee and apply online with a preference list of a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 colleges or equivalent institutions. They are then given a placement at one institution based on their results, preference order and, where applicable, quota considerations.

The Dhaka Education Board runs the centralized online Class XI admission process with technical support from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Admissions to colleges and madrasas are conducted under this system. Institutions under the Technical Education Board are admitted through a separate process. Nearly all colleges and madrasas in the country use this system for Class XI admission, apart from a few institutions including Dhaka’s Notre Dame College.

Dhaka Education Board sources said all prospective applicants must apply within the set application window, from September 2 to 10. Those who applied for result re-evaluation must also apply. However, those whose results change after re-evaluation will be given another opportunity to apply. Re-evaluation results are expected to be published September 10.

According to the education boards’ proposal, those whose results change following re-evaluation will be able to apply on September 12 and 13. After this verification process, admissions will take place on September 20, 21 and 22, followed by the start of classes on September 23.

However, those who do not get placed at any college or madrasa through this process and timeline, or do not get their expected college, or are unable to apply for any reason, will be given a further opportunity to apply for admission shortly after September 23.

More than 400,000 examinees have filed nearly 1.3 million applications for re-evaluation of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exam results. Of these, more than 1,056,000 applications were for re-evaluation of written (theory) exam answer scripts, while more than 231,000 applications were for practical exam scripts.

SSC and equivalent exam results were published on August 10. This year, 11 education boards had a combined 1,829,485 examinees, of whom 1,138,877 passed. In other words, nearly 700,000 examinees failed to pass. Nationwide, there are about 2.5 million admission-eligible seats in Class XI across colleges and madrasas combined. As a result, more than half of all seats are expected to remain empty this year.

Even with more seats than applicants, however, not all students who scored a GPA of 5 will be able to enroll at their preferred institution, since comparatively better institutions have limited seats. This year, more than 116,000 students across the 11 education boards achieved a GPA of 5, including 106,009 students across the nine general education boards.
