Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Bangladesh national cricket team on their historic achievement of winning a Test match against Australia on Australian soil for the first time.

The Tigers secured the memorable win Sunday, beating hosts Australia by nine wickets in the series’ first Test in Darwin. Bangladesh achieved this feat in their very first Test appearance in Australia after a gap of 23 years.

The prime minister was traveling toward Kishoreganj when the Tiger team secured the historic win. After the match ended, the prime minister spoke with the Bangladesh players over a video call and congratulated them on the historic victory, also conveying greetings from the people of Bangladesh to the players.

Tareque Rahman said this historic win for Bangladesh, against a powerful side like Australia on their own soil, is a matter of immense pride for the country’s cricket. He said the extraordinary achievement was the result of the players’ strong resolve, self-belief, skill, and team effort.

The prime minister congratulated the Bangladesh team’s players, coaching staff, and everyone involved. He also expressed hope that Bangladesh would play well in the next Test as well, turning this opportunity to win the series into reality.

It should be noted that Bangladesh had previously beaten Australia in a Test match in Mirpur in 2017. This time, Bangladesh made new history by beating the world’s top-ranked Test side, Australia, on their own soil.
