Bangladesh won a Test on Australian soil for the first time. The visitors played utterly dominant cricket on their way to a nine-wicket win in Darwin, brushing the hosts aside. That has been reflected in the individual rankings. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Hasan Mahmud, and others have all climbed in the ICC’s latest updated rankings.

Bangladesh dominated Australia for all three and a half days at Marrara Cricket Ground. In the first innings, the hosts were bowled out for 198 by the visitors’ devastating bowling. Hasan Mahmud played the biggest role in keeping Australia in check, taking 6 wickets for 55 runs to finish as Bangladesh’s most successful bowler.

Australia fared no better in the second innings either, this time bowled out for 284. Hasan took 3 wickets in that innings. With 9 wickets in the match overall, the pacer won the Player of the Match award. Having led from the front in this historic win, Hasan also received a major boost in the bowlers’ rankings.

Hasan climbed 26 places. He now sits at number 38 with a rating of 503. Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved up three places to 34th. The all-rounder’s rating now stands at 652. After going wicketless in the first innings, Miraz took 5 wickets for 66 in the second. It was largely his spin that denied Australia the chance to set Bangladesh a big target, and Miraz has reaped the benefit in the rankings.

In reply to Australia’s first-innings total of 198, Bangladesh piled up 426. Tanzid Hasan Tamim laid the foundation for the visitors’ big innings. The opener scored 101 on his way to his maiden Test century. He climbed the furthest of any batter in the rankings, up 84 places. Tanzid is now ranked 88th. In the same innings, Shanto was dismissed for 84 after flirting with a century of his own. The Bangladesh captain climbed nine places to 20th.

Mominul Haque scored 49 and an unbeaten 30 across the two innings of the Darwin Test. The former captain climbed five places and is now ranked 31st. Alongside his bowling, Miraz also improved in the batting rankings. After playing a crucial 65-run innings in the second innings, he climbed five places to 59th. Sadman Islam, who climbed three places, sits just above Miraz.

Litton Das slipped in the rankings. The wicketkeeper-batter dropped five places to 28th.
