Indian content creator Harman Singh Kapoor has faced strong criticism on social media for mocking the destruction in Gaza.
The UK-based creator shared a 30-second video on X in which he holds up a phone showing an aerial image of a structure circled in red. “Now I am asking Bibi (Netanyahu) and the Israel Defense Forces… why is this building in Gaza still standing?” he asks. When the person filming asks which building he means, Kapoor points to it and says, “This one.” When the person remarks that it seems to be the only building left standing, Kapoor replies: “Yes, why?”
The video sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning his remarks amid the vast destruction across Gaza. Users also noted that his comments do not represent the wider Sikh community.
Earlier, on September 30, another post caused fresh controversy. In it, Kapoor shared another aerial image of a badly damaged area with one part circled in red, and wrote, using abusive and ableist slurs, that according to such people, destroying buildings is apparently genocide. His language and presentation drew a storm of condemnation online.
Meanwhile, updated satellite images on Google Maps have revealed the terrible scale of destruction in Gaza. Extensive damage is visible in Rafah, Khan Younis and Gaza City; roads have been cut through once densely populated areas and many buildings reduced to rubble. A housing project of hundreds of units in the “Saudi Neighbourhood” of Tal al-Sultan in Rafah appears to have been almost completely flattened, and only a handful of structures remain in the “Swedish Village” area.
