Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haq Milon has announced that madrasa teachers’ outstanding salaries for May and June will be paid together in July.
The minister made the statement on Thursday morning (June 25) as chief guest at an exchange-of-views meeting at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy. The meeting was convened with officials responsible for examination centres and district education officers ahead of the upcoming HSC and equivalent examinations, with the aim of ensuring the exams are held in a smooth, peaceful and entirely cheat-free environment.
The education minister said: “I know how difficult life becomes when one month’s salary is not paid. The previous interim government recruited 17,000 teachers to madrasas via NTRCA but did not allocate a budget for their salaries — which is why teachers have not been paid. This problem will be resolved quickly.”
He said: “The previous government did not know that it needed to allocate the budget. We have seen that the more time passed, the more problems were created — as if to ensure that the next government could not function. A state cannot be run this way. We will not allow that.”
He added: “I had 100 crore taka in hand and placed it in Janata Bank. Those whose accounts are at Janata Bank have been paid. The rest have not, and for that I apologise. The blame for that apology should have rested with the previous government, but they did not offer one. This is the state of our Bangladesh.”
