The Minister for Education and Primary and Mass Education, Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, has said qualitative changes will be brought to the education system to prevent the waste of time in students’ academic lives. To this end, the schedules for the SSC and HSC examinations had been published in advance, he said, and steps would also be taken to coordinate the university admission process.
He made the remarks on Tuesday as chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with officials in charge of the centres of the Chittagong Education Board and the Chittagong region’s madrasa and technical education boards, for the HSC and equivalent examinations of 2026, held at the Chittagong College auditorium.
The minister said a university’s four-year course must be completed within four years, and that there could be no scope for prolonging students’ academic lives; the necessary reforms and coordinating steps would be taken in education for this purpose.
He said the routine for the 2027 SSC and HSC examinations had already been published so that students could prepare with enough time, and that steps would later be taken to run the university admission process in a coordinated manner as well.
Dr Milon said teachers’ role in nation-building was immense. To build the coming generation as well-educated and skilled citizens, teachers had to work responsibly, and they also needed a mindset of self-motivation and of earning professional dignity, he said.
On preventing cheating in exams, he said the nature of cheating had now changed, with many trying to use unfair means through digital devices. Centre secretaries and the officials in charge therefore had to stay alert on the matter and ensure that exams were held transparently and properly.
The minister also said it was possible to unite the people of the country by playing an effective role in education, and that, as in other parts of the country, extensive programmes would have to be implemented to develop education in the hill areas too.
The meeting, presided over by the chairman of the Chittagong Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, was attended as special guests by the State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, and the mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, Dr Shahadat Hossain.
