GAIBANDHA — Morsalin Hasan Parosh, 25, died Friday morning at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, six days after his girlfriend Mim Akhter died from the same poisoning incident in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha district, police said.

A.K.M. Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadullapur police station, confirmed the death on Friday afternoon, April 24.

Parosh was the son of Hamid Mia of Joyenpur village in the upazila, and Mim, 19, was the daughter of Shafiul Islam from the same village. They were neighbours.

The two consumed poison together in the village on the morning of April 19. They were rescued and taken to Sadullapur upazila health complex by relatives. Mim died the same afternoon, and Parosh, whose condition deteriorated, was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to police and local residents, the two had been in a long-term relationship. When their families learned of it, both proposed marriage to their parents, but neither family agreed. Mim was subsequently married off elsewhere. When she returned to her parents’ home from her husband’s house, a falling-out developed between the couple, and the two attempted suicide together on April 19, police said.

“Parosh died this morning at Rangpur Medical College Hospital,” Islam said. “We have filed the report. The autopsy will be conducted there at the hospital. The body will then be handed over to the family.”
