Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haq Milon has announced plans to recruit more than 100,000 new teachers, including 32,500 government primary school head teachers and approximately 70,000 teachers and lecturers at private MPO-enlisted institutions.
He was speaking at a UNESCO-organized event titled “Global Partnership for Education System Transformation Grant and Multipillar Grant for Bangladesh” at the Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on Thursday (July 2).
“I have more good news. The Appellate Division has issued its ruling on the recruitment of 32,500 primary school head teachers. The division accepted our appeal, and we can now proceed with the appointments,” he said.
He added that approximately 70,000 MPO-enlisted teachers and lecturers could also be recruited, calling it “big news for us.”
The minister noted that HSC exams had begun the same morning. “We were supposed to visit exam centers, but perhaps our colleagues felt it was not necessary. That is a big change from before,” he said.
The Prime Minister’s adviser on education Mahdi Amin, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and representatives from the education ministry and UNESCO were present.
The minister said UNESCO and UNICEF have approved approximately $99 million in funding for Bangladesh’s education sector under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) this year.
