Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that students who could not sit their exams because of bad weather may take the papers concerned on the same date set by the Education Ministry, using the same question paper as the Chattogram board’s postponed exams. In addition, full marks will be awarded for two questions that were flawed in the Physics first paper.

The minister made the announcement in a statement under Rule 300 in the National Parliament on Wednesday.

He said 12,70,583 candidates were sitting the exams across the country. Because of recent heavy rain and bad weather, exams were postponed in five districts under the Chattogram education board — Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban. Beyond the Chattogram board, some candidates in Dhaka and a few other districts were also unable to sit scheduled exams because of bad weather and various other reasons.

The minister said that candidates who could not appear in any subject of the ongoing HSC and equivalent exams, owing to adverse weather or other unavoidable reasons, would be allowed to sit those subjects on the same date and at the same time set by the Education Ministry, using the same question paper as the Chattogram board’s already-postponed exams.

Since the HSC exam is a crucial step in students’ lives, he said, this special opportunity was being granted as a special consideration. The minister added that those responsible for setting the flawed Physics first paper had already been temporarily suspended. “Honourable Speaker, I say again — for the errors in questions 6 and 7 of the Physics first paper, candidates will be given full marks,” he said.
