Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, has said that despite US sanctions and military strikes, Iran’s nuclear industry is advancing on par with the world’s leading countries in the field.

Speaking Wednesday, he said: “Today, Iran’s nuclear industry is keeping pace with and standing shoulder to shoulder with the world’s leading countries in this sector.”

He further said Tehran’s enemies allege that Iran’s nuclear program is not peaceful, adding that they make such allegations because they want to weaken Iran.

Eslami said: “They themselves know the reality of the matter. Their own actions have proven that their main goal is to obstruct the progress of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful, intended for civilian use, particularly nuclear power generation.

US President Trump has said he launched the war against Iran together with Israel to prevent Tehran from building nuclear weapons. However, US intelligence agencies had assessed that Iran was not planning to build a nuclear bomb. Meanwhile, various media reports have suggested that Iran may have become more determined to pursue nuclear weapons capability since the war.
