The understanding reached between the United States and Iran could easily collapse in the event of fresh provocation or an attack, making it ‘premature’ to hope for lasting peace at this stage, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has said.
In a post on the Russian social-media platform Max, he said: “This fragile agreement could easily fall apart because of a new attack in Lebanon or other provocations. And that is exactly what Netanyahu’s cabinet — which survives only through war — needs. So much for hopes of peace.”

But Moscow’s response to the recent conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel was largely confined to diplomatic and verbal support, exposing the limits of the two countries’ partnership.
