Indian politics has flared up again over allegations that police used “pellet guns” against protesters at the Cockroach Janata Party’s demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has staged a sit-in at a police station, bringing along a student he says was wounded by pellet fire during the protest.

He alleges that Sahil Lochab was wounded by pellet fire during the July 20 protest. Rahul has demanded that an FIR be filed over the incident and that police conduct be investigated. He said he would not leave the police station until a case is registered. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also joined him.

On Friday, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi went to Parliament Street police station with Sahil Lochab. There, they went to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police to ask about the progress of the investigation into allegations of pellet-gun use during the protest.

Congress alleges that although a complaint was filed earlier on the injured student’s behalf, police did not register an FIR. This time, Rahul himself took the initiative to go to the police station with him to press for the case to be registered.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul said Sahil was wounded by pellet fire while protesting peacefully. The opposition leader then lifted Sahil’s T-shirt to show reporters the wound marks on his body. He claims Sahil has more than 200 pellets in his body and three pellets in his eye.
