The five-time world champions, Brazil, have not lifted a trophy in 24 years. Brazil legend Kaka wants to see the team end that long drought and win a title again. The 2002 World Cup-winning midfielder is placing his faith in current coach Carlo Ancelotti to make that dream a reality.
In an interview with ESPN, Kaka said Ancelotti is the most suitable man for Brazil at this time. He said that although the team had not achieved the success expected of it in recent years, Brazil’s heritage and football culture always keep it among the contenders at any World Cup.
“Maybe Brazil weren’t among the top three favorites before the tournament,” Kaka said. “But it’s still a strong team. And Carlo is Carlo.”
Kaka believes that under the experienced Italian coach, the Seleção can once again reclaim their lost glory on the world stage. “Ancelotti understands the emotion, the pressure and the expectation of a World Cup very well,” said the former star, who played in three World Cups. “So if Brazil can end this long wait and deliver a successful World Cup, that will be a moment of special joy for the whole country.”
The five-time world champions have not seen a title since 2002. In that time, the team has reached the semifinals only once. The pain of the 7-1 defeat to Germany at the 2014 World Cup, held on home soil, remains one of the most agonizing memories in the country’s football history. Putting that despair behind them, Carlo Ancelotti has taken charge with new ambitions. Supporters hope that under one of the most successful coaches in the history of club football, Brazil will return to the path of World Cup glory.
Brazil’s World Cup campaign, however, did not begin very comfortably. They drew 1-1 with Morocco in their opening match. After the match, Ancelotti acknowledged that the team needed to improve, and hinted that some changes could be coming.
Still, Kaka is not losing faith in the team. In his view, Ancelotti’s experience, his ability to handle pressure and his long history of success on the big stage are once again making Brazil dream of winning the World Cup. The legendary footballer believes that with the right guidance, the Seleção can re-establish themselves in the fight for supremacy in world football.
