In Sundarganj, Gaibandha, a woman has died within two hours of her husband’s burial.
It happened on Tuesday afternoon in Shahabaz Matinbazar village in Sarbananda union of the upazila.
The dead are Abdul Jalil, 70, son of the late Abdul Karim Khan of Shahabaz (Matinbazar) village, and his wife, Amina Begum, 60.
Family sources said Amina Begum suffered a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain on the night of 22 September. Her husband fell ill with worry for her and suffered a stroke himself only two and a half hours later. They were treated at Rangpur Medical College Hospital and returned home, and Abdul Jalil died at his house late on Monday night.
After his funeral prayer at about 3pm he was buried in the family graveyard. Two hours after the family came home from the burial, at about 5pm, his wife died. After a funeral prayer that night she was buried beside her husband.
The couple’s son, Alam Mia, said: “My parents loved each other very much. My mother left us right after we came back from burying my father. We were orphaned in a single day.”
Zahurul Islam, chairman of Sarbananda union parishad, said: “For a wife to die on the same day, only two hours after her husband’s funeral, is very rare.”
