Police have recovered the body of a rickshaw-van driver, Mokshedul Islam, 52, from a paddy field in Chirirbandar, Dinajpur.
The body was recovered on Monday (5 October) morning from a paddy field beside the Fultongi Eidgah ground in Manikbati village of the upazila’s Satnala union.
Mokshedul Islam was the son of the late Abdul Mannan of Fakirpara in Dakshin Nasratpur village of the upazila’s Nasratpur union.
Local and police sources said Mokshedul left home with his battery-run rickshaw van on Sunday (4 October) afternoon and did not return that night. On Monday morning local people saw a body lying in the paddy field beside the Fultongi Eidgah ground in Manikbati village with a gamchha, a cotton towel, wrapped around the neck. They informed the police, and officers from Chirirbandar police station went to the scene and recovered the body.
Confirming the incident, the police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Md Mahmudun-Nabi, said: “The body has been sent to the morgue of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. It is initially believed that criminals killed Mokshedul by strangling him with a gamchha around his neck and took away his battery-run rickshaw van.”
