The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has sanctioned Tk 9,49,94,400 from the 2026-27 budget to meet the immediate costs of burying or cremating freedom fighters and transporting their bodies.
The allocation was announced in an order issued by the ministry’s budget branch on 29 September and signed by Deputy Secretary (Budget) Dr Md Asaduzzaman. The money will be released to deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers across the country.
The order says the sum will come from the Tk 18 crore allocated as burial grants under the honorarium allowance for war-wounded and other freedom fighters, in the special programmes of the ministry’s 2026-27 operating budget.
District and upazila administrations will draw the money from their accounts offices through proper bills, and the chief accounts and finance officer has been asked to send the spending authority to each office.
Under the conditions, the money may not be spent on anything other than the cremation, burial and transport of freedom fighters’ bodies. Government financial rules must be followed, and the disbursing authority will be held responsible for any irregularity. Any money left unspent after 30 June 2027 must be returned to the treasury and the ministry informed.
The order instructs the deputy commissioners of all 64 districts and all upazila nirbahi officers to take the necessary steps, and asks for it to be published on the ministry’s website.
