The Supreme Court’s chamber court has stayed a High Court order suspending the new ad hoc committee formed to run the Bangladesh Shooting Federation, removing any legal bar to the committee working and holding an election, Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol said.
Speaking at his office at the Supreme Court on Sunday, he said the government had earlier formed an ad hoc committee with a deadline to hold federation elections, but former joint secretary GM Haider and others failed to complete the election in time. A new 29-member ad hoc committee was then announced, headed by Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Mainur Rahman as president, with Labaid Group managing director Sakib Shamim, a member of the Rajdhani Rifle Club, as general secretary.
The ad hoc committee formed in 2025 challenged the new committee, formed on 18 July, in a writ petition, and on 15 September 2026 a High Court bench suspended its activities. The state, the National Sports Council and the federation filed a civil petition for leave to appeal (No 3688/2026) with the Appellate Division’s chamber judge, Justice Md Rezaul Haque, who stayed the High Court order after hearing the parties.
As a result, the committee formed on 18 July remains fully in effect and can carry on its regular administrative work, and it has been given three months to form a new executive committee through a fair election, the attorney general said.
