JHALOKATI — More than 100 members of the Hindu community led by Sujit Gharami have joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Ward 4 of Kirttipasha union, Jhalokati district.
The new members were formally welcomed on Saturday night, Jan. 10, at a prize-distribution ceremony for a cricket tournament organized by the Jhalokati district unit of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation. Jhalokati district Jamaat-e-Islami chief Advocate Hafizur Rahman received them with flowers and greetings.
Sheikh Neyamul Karim, the Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for the Jhalokati Sadar-Nalchhiti constituency, attended the event along with district and upazila leaders.
Hafizur Rahman said the voluntary participation of so many Hindus showed Jamaat-e-Islami was a political organization of the masses, and that public confidence in politics based on justice, honesty and good governance was growing. Sujit Gharami, a resident of Kirttipasha union, said Jamaat-e-Islami’s ideals, discipline and social welfare work had deeply inspired him. He said he had joined the party to contribute to the country’s welfare and to building a peaceful society.
