PATUAKHALI — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has removed Bauphal upazila convener Abdul Jabbar Mridha from his party post over allegations that he made false, fabricated and misleading remarks against the party’s Patuakhali-2 candidate, Shahidul Alam Talukdar, party officials said.

The removal was announced in a press release Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, signed by Patuakhali district BNP president Snehangshu Sarker Kutti and general secretary Mujibur Rahman Toton.

District BNP sources said Mridha had recently organized several meetings and rallies against the BNP-nominated candidate, where he made false, fabricated and misleading remarks. Local leaders and workers filed multiple written complaints against him. On Jan. 14, he was issued a show-cause notice and ordered to provide a written explanation within two days. His response was not satisfactory, and he was removed from the party post, sources said.

District BNP general secretary Mujibur Rahman Toton confirmed the removal.
