SUNAMGANJ — Two young residents of Madhyanagar upazila in Sunamganj have excelled in the 49th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam, one becoming the country’s youngest cadre and the other topping the mathematics cadre nationwide.
Khadiza Akhter, a student at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at Dhaka University, has made history as the country’s youngest BCS cadre. She passed the BCS exam before the final results of her honors degree were even published.
Khadiza is the only daughter of the late Abdul Aziz and Hajera Begum of Madhyanagar village in Madhyanagar upazila. She passed her secondary school certificate exam from the local Madhyanagar Bishweshwari Public High School and her higher secondary certificate exam from Sylhet Government Women’s College, before enrolling at Dhaka University.
“Alhamdulillah, this is the greatest achievement of my life,” Khadiza said. “Behind this success was my mother’s prayers. On this happy day, I remember my father the most. Without the support of my mother, my brother, my teachers and my friends, this would not have been possible. I want to work for the people of our underdeveloped region. I seek everyone’s prayers.”
The student who topped the mathematics cadre nationwide, Md. Oli Ullah, is also from Madhyanagar. He is the only son of Md. Abdul Hekim and Hajera Khatun of Bangshikunda village in the upazila.
The success of the two young people has brought a wave of joy across Madhyanagar. Well-wishers, teachers and residents have expressed delight, and Madhyanagar is awash with congratulatory messages on Facebook and other social media platforms.
