CHANDPUR — Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Dr. Abdul Mobin has withdrawn his nomination papers from the Chandpur-2 (Matlab North-Matlab South) constituency under the final decision of a 10-party alliance.

Mobin confirmed the move himself.

He confirmed it in a post on his personal Facebook account on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Expressing gratitude to grassroots activists, fellow campaigners and supporters, Mobin wrote on Facebook: “Alhamdulillah, to all the grassroots activists, fellow campaigners and well-wishers who saw in me a symbol of peace and security, I offer my respectful salaam, gratitude and love. What the soil and people of Matlab gave to one of their sons is the greatest achievement of my life.”

He said the decision to withdraw the nomination came from the central leadership. “I am a sworn worker. There is nothing else for me. I have a hunger to give to Matlab and the country. Whenever and in whatever capacity Allah grants me the opportunity, I will stand with the people of Matlab,” he said.

After the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate’s withdrawal, the LDP’s Mohammad Billal Hossain Miaji has been named the alliance’s final candidate for Chandpur-2 under the umbrella symbol.

Mobin said: “As per the central directive, I have withdrawn my nomination and stepped away from the election.”

The alliance nominee, Billal Hossain Miaji of the LDP, said: “The 10-party alliance has nominated me for the Chandpur-2 seat. I seek everyone’s full cooperation.”
