GALACHIPA, Patuakhali — Twenty-eight children received bicycles Thursday after praying five times a day for 41 consecutive days in a mosque-based competition organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s youth wing in Patuakhali’s Galachipa upazila.
The bicycles were handed out at a ceremony at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Udayan Secondary School field in the municipal area.
The first-of-its-kind mosque-based prayer competition was organized by the BNP’s Galachipa municipal volunteer team and the Galachipa Government College unit of the Chhatra Dal, the party’s student wing.
Organizers said the competition was held to encourage children in prayer and religious practice as part of an effort to build a mosque-based generation. A total of 46 children between the ages of 8 and 12 took part. Their attendance at the five daily prayers was monitored for 41 days, and 28 children who prayed consistently were declared winners.
Siddiqur Rahman, a Liberation War veteran and president of the upazila BNP, attended as chief guest at the distribution ceremony. Hasan Mamun, an independent candidate for the seat in the 13th parliamentary election, was the special guest.
