THAKURGAON — Amid a recent crunch in Bangladesh’s fuel supply, a wedding in Thakurgaon district produced an unusual scene this week: the groom was presented with five liters of octane as a gift.
Most filling stations in the district have been unable to obtain fuel. The handful of pumps that do receive limited daily allocations now draw long lines on the roads, with consumers waiting hours for service.
Against that backdrop, guests at a wedding in Rajapukur, in Begunbari Union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, gave the groom five liters of octane. The gift drew laughter and curiosity from attendees, many of whom called it timely and practical.
Hasan Rayhan, a guest at the event, said: “Right now, fuel is the most valuable and necessary thing. So a gift like this is truly unusual.”
