RANGPUR — Rangpur District Administrator Enamul Ahsan addressed Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu as “sir” more than 50 times in a two-minute speech at a discussion meeting on regional development and industrialization, drawing widespread criticism on social media.
The meeting, titled “Equity-Based Regional Development and Industrialization Potential,” was held Tuesday afternoon, March 24, in the conference room of the district administrator’s office.
A video of Ahsan’s remarks spread quickly across social media, sparking debate and criticism among internet users.
In the clip, Ahsan can be seen briefing the minister on Rangpur’s various development initiatives and proposed projects, peppering nearly every sentence with multiple uses of “sir.”
Several people who attended the meeting said many in the room had grown visibly uncomfortable with the repeated honorific in such a brief address.
