CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — A discussion meeting was held at Chougachha upazila in Jashore district on Wednesday to mark Genocide Day, organizers said.
The meeting took place at 11 a.m. on March 25 at the upazila parishad auditorium, organizers said.
The meeting was chaired by Farzana Islam, upazila chief executive officer. Speakers included Maulana Nurul Islam, deputy chief of the upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami; Professor Nuruzzaman, the unit’s secretary; Kamal Ahmed, assistant secretary; Selim Reza Awliar, a BNP leader and former mayor; Rahidul Islam Khan, senior vice president of the Chougachha press club; and journalist M.A. Rahim, organizers said.
Heads of local schools, officials of various upazila offices, local dignitaries, leaders of social and political organizations, students and journalists also attended, organizers said.
Prizes were distributed to winners of drawing, extempore speech and poetry recitation competitions held to mark the day, organizers said.
