PIRGANJ, Bangladesh — A police assistant sub-inspector died of a heart attack while attempting to arrest a suspect under a warrant in Thakurgaon’s Pirganj upazila, police said.
Shahidul Islam Shahid, 40, who was attached to Pirganj police station, collapsed around 1 a.m. Sunday night in Senua village in Bhomradah union, police said.
According to police sources, a team from Pirganj police station went to Senua village late Sunday night to arrest a suspect named in a warrant. After detaining the suspect and while putting him into the police vehicle, Shahidul Islam suddenly complained of severe chest pain. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Pirganj police station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam confirmed the incident. He said Shahidul fell ill while getting into the vehicle after the arrest and was rushed to the Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician, Tanjina, declared him dead.
