GAIBANDHA — A tractor carrying soil from a pond excavation site in Gaibandha’s Sadullapur upazila lost control and overturned in a rice field while trying to flee an administrative raid. The tractor smashed into a chicken coop along the way, and the driver and several bystanders narrowly escaped injury.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon, March 7, in North Damodarpur village in Damodarpur union of the upazila.

According to local sources, a man named Sanjay Kumar was excavating a pond in the area. Complaints were lodged that local roads had been damaged by the tractors carrying away the excavated soil. Acting on the complaints, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jasim Uddin conducted a raid at the site.

When the tractor driver, Jahangir Alam, sensed the administration’s presence, he tried to speed away from the area. As he fled, the tractor smashed into a chicken coop belonging to Abdul Majid Akanda on the side of the road, destroying the coop. A child and several others standing near the coop narrowly escaped serious injury.

The tractor later reached the house of local resident Emdadul Haque, where the driver lost control and ran the vehicle into the neighboring rice field of Bhutru Mia. The tractor overturned and was damaged. Driver Jahangir Alam jumped out and fled on foot, escaping unharmed.

Sadullapur Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jasim Uddin said the tractor had been ordered to stop during the raid, but the driver had not complied and had instead tried to flee at high speed, losing control and crashing.

The incident has caused a stir in the area. Local residents said dissatisfaction had been building for some time over damage to village roads caused by the pond digging and soil hauling.
