TEHRAN — Iranian Majlis member Alaeddin Boroujerdi said a new parliamentary plan to manage the Strait of Hormuz “will be approved as soon as possible.”
Under the proposed “new system,” no ship would be allowed to pass through the strait without Iran’s permission, he said.
Iran is also considering imposing a transit toll on ships using the route, Boroujerdi said.
“Since maintaining security and providing services to passing ships costs money, a framework for collecting a transit toll for passage through this strait needs to be built,” he said.
He added that the “time has come” for Iran to withdraw from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In his view, the agreement has lost its relevance after Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
