Cancer prevention and screening seminar held in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR — The Khurshid Jahan Haque Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital has held a seminar on cancer prevention and screening, organizers said.

The event was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, at the Dinajpur Care Nursing College auditorium and was organized by the institute, an affiliated body of the Zia Heart Foundation.

The chief guest was professor Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder Raskin, project coordinator at the Ganoshasthya Community Based Cancer Hospital in Dhaka and an adviser to the Khurshid Jahan Haque Institute.

Md. Anwarul Kabir, general secretary of the institute and treasurer of the Zia Heart Foundation, presided. Dr. Sadia Habib Arpi, a medical officer at Ganoshasthya Community Based Cancer Hospital, spoke as the keynote discussant.

Special guests included Zia Heart Foundation general secretary and institute vice president A.K.M. Azad; foundation joint secretary Md. Abu Taher Abu; joint secretary Dr. Md. Ziaul Haque Zia; and Care Nursing College principal Dr. Sharmin Sattar.

Talukder Raskin said cancer awareness must reach every level of society and called for cancer prevention to be turned into a social movement. He said early detection significantly reduces cancer risk and stressed the importance of regular screening and awareness.

Arpi briefed attendees on cancer risks, early symptoms and prevention measures.

The seminar drew doctors, nurses and health workers. Speakers said scientific and awareness-focused events of this kind would open new avenues for cancer treatment and prevention for residents of northern Bangladesh.
